COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Authorities in Sri Lanka have imposed tougher restrictions on banning public gatherings, weddings, parties and reducing the number of those attending funerals and restaurants as the latest step in curbing the spread of COVID-19.

Health officials have warned that the next three weeks will be crucial in Sri Lanka as the number of people with the growing disease increases rapidly.

In addition, authorities have closed schools until further notice - and supermarkets and supermarkets will only allow a maximum of 25% of the number of customers to be placed in the space available at any given time.

Health officials have warned that confirmed cases could rise sharply in the next three weeks due to celebrations and bribery during the traditional New Year's Eve festival on April 14.

The number of cases in Sri Lanka reached 111,753 with 696 deaths.

CHAPTER - The Czechs will be able to breathe a sigh of relief as the government continues to reduce funding for coronaviruses during the outbreak of new diseases in one of Europe's worst affected countries.

From next Monday, people in the Czech Republic will be allowed to remove the mask from all outdoor areas if they stay at least two meters from other people.

At the same time, car dealers, tanneries, shooting distances, travel agencies, shoe repair, beauty salons and many other services will return to business on the same day.

Earlier the government decided to open all the shops on that day.

The nation of 10.7 million people has 1.63 million confirmed cases of 29,365 deaths.

Such authorization would be the first time that a Chinese vaccine has been given the so-called emergency use list from the UN health agency, and could lead to widespread distribution of Chinese vaccines already used in countries other than China.

NEW YORK - Government Andrew Cuomo has said New York City's subway will start overnight and power outages for many types of businesses will end nationwide in mid-May as levels of infection with COVID-19 continue to decline.

Cuomo announced last week that underground roads would be closed from 1am to 5am for trains and stations to be infected. The change is aimed at making it easier to get homeless people off trains where many sleep overnight.

The two closures were reduced to 2 to 4 pm in February.

BOSTON - Massachusetts plans to close its seven mass vaccination centers by the end of June with the aim of identifying more than 30% of eligible government officials who have not received at least one coronavirus vaccine, Government Charlie Baker said on Monday.

The state will instead send additional doses to 22 smaller districts in the region, increase mobile phone vaccination efforts, and provide vaccination clinics at higher institutions, YMCAs, houses of worship and other public places, the governor of the Republic said.

While there are doubts among uninvited people, usually that is not the case, it is a simple matter, says Baker, and he wants to make it as easy as possible to get a gun. The state could change its focus because it aims to achieve its goal of getting more than 4 million people to be vaccinated by the end of May.

GENEVA - Top scientists at the World Health Organization are showing signs that the COVID-19 vaccine is reducing transmission, and that vaccination of about half of the world's population is followed by a "significant reduction" in conditions.

Dr Soumya Swaminathan, WHO's chief scientist, said such evidence of funding came from colleagues who complained that countries did not have the next vaccine - and were facing increased hospital admissions.

The WHO has repeatedly expressed concern about inequality in access to vaccines - in many rich countries they can afford it, and many poorer countries receive fewer or more doses.

Maria Van Kerkhove, head of technology at COVID-19 at the WHO, also pointed to some "signs that the vaccine is delaying transmission" - although studies on the subject have not yet been completed.
